How We Filter Water While Traveling In A Pop Up Camper

We have been in Mississippi, at Bynum Creek Campground for two weeks. Bynum Creek is a Army Corps of Engineers, primitive campground. It has a flushing toilet and a spigot to get water from. The first few days the bathrooms were locked. I gather, from what the locals say nobody ever camps here and kids destroyed the bathrooms a few years back. They repaired the damage and locked up the bathrooms. Didn't make sense to me, why repair just to lock  them up. Anyway the Ranger unlocked the bathrooms.

We had running water from day one here, however, the water looked muddy. This is the point of this blog. We posted a video about the water on YouTube and shared it with Face Book. I could not believe the abuse we were getting from the people who put all their trust in the Government. In there eyes we were stupid for even suggesting that the water may not be safe to drink. Because their beloved Government supposedly test the water at all Army Corps of Engineers sites. By the way we do have a very good filtering system so what water we consumed was fine.

After about a week maybe ten days, the water cleared up. The water probably had not been used for years before we got there. Even though it was coming out clear we still filtered the water as we do at every campground.

  1. I always carry and use a water filter. I took it to India, I took it to state parks in Ohio. I just don't trust water anywhere. Nothing worse than getting the "runs"or worse on vacation. Just good common sense.
